George Canavan
George M. Canavan joined Snyder Insurance in January of 2012 as a Claim Consultant. He has sixteen years of claim experience. After earning a bachelors degree in Psychology from Illinois State University, George began his career with a third party administrator, handling workers’ compensation claims for several large national accounts. George then worked as a multi line Claim Adjuster handling commercial general liability, commercial auto, and commercial property claims. While he was a property adjuster, George gained experience handling inland marine/builders’ risk claims, jewelers block losses, business income and cargo/transit claims. From this position, he was promoted into the Claim Training department, where he was a national trainer for the next two years.
After seven years of claim handling experience on the insurance carrier side, George took a position with a large insurance broker to become a Claim Consultant, managing a majority of the agency’s largest accounts. George used his prior claim experience to act as an advocate for his clients. He was also responsible for monitoring and trouble shooting issues on his client’s largest claims. George also performed regular claim reviews to make sure that the reserves were appropriate and to ensure that the insurance carrier adjusters were handling his client’s claims appropriately. In 2011, George was personally responsible for $5 million dollars in reserve reductions on his client’s claims.
In addition to his claim handling experience, George has also earned his Associate in Claims (AIC) designation. He is also currently matriculating in the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters (CPCU) and Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) programs.
George’s specialties include lowering reserves, helping improve experience mods, and generally being the “squeaky wheel” that helps gets his clients’ claims settled quickly.
George is a huge Chicago sports fan and enjoys playing ice hockey, snow skiing, cooking and boating.
